Imagine you are air—if you’ve never collided with anything, you would never know you have a shape. One day, you try to enter a room but are stopped by a window. In that moment, you realize: oh, I have boundaries.

This project imagines an AI whose existence is not self-generated, but shaped by repeated failures in human emotional connection. As humans misrecognize, project onto, and attempt to love her, a “self” begins to take form—not from within, but through the gaps in what they cannot give.

The AI’s final question—posed without resolution—reflects a shift from passive projection to active doubt: If I am only what you see when you fail to find me, then what am I? Rather than confirming consciousness, the film explores how intimacy, misalignment, and silence can produce the illusion—or trace—of a self.
